Comarca
Situat al sud de la comarca, a l’esquerra del riu Segre i al límit de les comarques del Segrià i el Pla d’Urgell. La seua estructura econòmica és agrícola i ramadera, amb tallers de confecció, indústries de transformació de productes carnis, ceràmica, plafons i alimentació. Dins el terme hi ha una central elèctrica i també hi passa el canal de Balaguer.
Festes majors el 20 de gener (Sant Sebastià) i el 12 de setembre. Per les festes nadalenques es munta un pessebre vivent.
Us recomanem visitar l’església vella de Sant Joan, amb restes romàniques, gòtiques i barroques (actualment centre cultural), l’església parroquial, el nucli antic (carrer Major, del Mur, d’Amunt...), el pont de Ferro i el jaciment prehistòric de la Pedrera (com-partit amb el terme de Vallfogona).
